I have been fascinated with the shapes of rocks and patterns that appear in rock formations. I always understand them by what they invoke in me. It's a little like looking at clouds. This image was photographed at Point Lobos, CA. After being somewhat overwhelmed by the incredible scenery I started looking down to a smaller world at my feet and discovered these fabulous shapes and patterns in the sandstone called the Carmelo Formation near the waters edge.
